Ridgewood packs a lot of restaurants into a few walkable blocks. Around Ridgewood Avenue, Broad Street, Chestnut Street and Franklin Avenue, you can find Thai, Korean, French, Lebanese, Greek, Indian, Japanese and plenty of Italian, often next door to each other.

That's the good news. The hard part is choosing. So instead of one long list, this guide sorts Ridgewood restaurants three ways: by what you want to spend, by the kind of night you're planning, and by what you're in the mood to eat. Pick the section that matches your question.

A quick note on prices: the dollar signs below are broad editorial groupings, from inexpensive quick meals to a special-occasion splurge. They're a rough guide, not a menu or a promised bill. Check current menus; drinks, tax and tip add to the total.

Tips before you go

  • Check if it's BYOB. Several Ridgewood restaurants let you bring your own, including Latour and Olivea. Others have a bar. If wine matters to your evening, call ahead or check the restaurant's own site.
  • Mind Mondays. Many independent restaurants close one weekday, usually Monday. Latour, Olivea, Felina, La Lanterna, From Scratch, Morsetto, Sakura Bana and Chorn Thong list Monday closures. Manjal and Meltemi close Tuesdays. Check Tabla's current hours directly with the restaurant.
  • Book ahead on weekends. For the smaller dinner spots, especially Latour and Olivea, a reservation on Friday or Saturday is a good idea. Both take bookings through OpenTable.
  • Plan your parking. Downtown has metered street parking and municipal lots; Ridgewood's meters accept payment through the ParkMobile app. Check the signs for current hours.
