The courses, Golf ID card, booking steps and fees in one practical guide.

Ask any Bergen County golfer about Saturday mornings, and you'll hear the same story. The good tee times go fast, and the people who get them planned ahead. They registered with the county before the season. They knew exactly when the booking window opened.

This guide walks you through it: the courses, the membership, how booking works and what you'll pay.

Six courses, one county

Bergen County owns and runs six public golf courses. All six are open for the 2026 season.

They're busy. Golfers played more than 335,000 rounds on the county courses in 2025. Overpeck in Teaneck is getting a new clubhouse, which the county expects to open in late spring 2026.

Step one: get your Golf ID card

You can play without registering, but you'll pay roughly double. A registered golfer gets cheaper greens fees and earlier access to tee times. The card pays for itself in two rounds.

Registration for each season opens February 1. It costs:

  • $60 for an adult Bergen County resident (ages 18 to 61)
  • $45 for resident seniors (62+), juniors (up to 17) and veterans
  • $45 for active military
  • $100 for non-residents

You have to register in person. Download the form from the county's golf site, fill it in, and bring it with you. Residents need a valid New Jersey driver's license. Without one, bring a photo ID and two proofs of address, such as a lease or a utility bill. Juniors need a birth certificate and a school ID or report card, and a parent has to come along.

The golf site says you can register at any of the six courses. But the county's spring press release sends new members to Soldier Hill in Emerson. Call ahead at 201-336-7259 to check which one to visit. Renewals are in person too: the county no longer takes them by mail.

Step two: book online

Each course has its own booking page. You'll find all six on the Tee Times page at golfbergencounty.com. There's no reservation fee.

To log in, use the golf ID number printed on the front of your card. New members start with a default password, explained on the Tee Times page. Change it right away under My Account. If you aren't registered, you can still create an account using your first initial and last name.

Registered golfers can book further ahead than everyone else. The county doesn't publish the exact window, so check it when you log in. If your registration has lapsed, you can only book three days out.

Cancel by 11:30 p.m. the night before. After that, you have to phone the course. Expect a fine, unless you're cancelling because of weather or cart restrictions. A no-show costs $30 per person. Read your confirmation email too: it lists the full policies.

What it costs

These are the 2026 greens fees for 18 holes. Weekend rates also apply on holidays.

What it costs
GolferWeekdayWeekend
Adult resident$37$45
Senior, junior or veteran resident$28$42
Active military$10$15
Registered non-resident$55$60
Not registered$74$90

Twilight rates are cheaper. An adult resident pays $32 on a weekday and $36 at the weekend. Twilight starts later in summer. It begins at 5 p.m. in July and August, 2 p.m. in October and 1 p.m. in November and December.

Some extras:

  • Nine holes: $30 weekday and $37 weekend for an adult resident. Nine-hole rounds are only at Orchard Hills, or on the back nine of the 18-hole courses during the first hour of play.
  • Rockleigh's Blue Course: a nine-hole course. Registered golfers pay $20 on weekdays and $25 at weekends.
  • Carts: $40 for a gas cart for 18 holes, or $20 if you share it. A pull cart is $6.
  • Card fee: paying by card adds 2.65%. The courses still take cash for now.

Tips for a better tee time

  • Register in February. Registration opens February 1. Do it then, and you're ready to book the moment the weather turns.
  • Play twilight. You save $8 to $9 a round as a resident, and the courses are quieter.
  • Bringing a teenager? Juniors under 15 have to play with an adult aged 18 or over.
  • Leave the personal cart at home. The county bans private electric and motorized carts.
  • Check conditions first. The Golf Information Line, 201-336-7280, has daily course conditions and hours.
  • Not registered yet? Arrive early, check in and register on the spot to pay the member rate that same day.

Information checked October 2026. Fees and rules change each season. Confirm with the golf office at 201-336-7259.
